Dance Recital

Yesterday was Sydnee's first dance recital.  I signed her up for dance in September at Serendipity. (Smithfield Rec Center) Friday was the dress rehearsal and she was so nervous. We could barely drag her out of the house to go.  She kept telling me that she was scared.  Finally we got her there and she saw the other little girls there and ran right up onto the stage.  After that she was fine and loved it and said she wanted to do it again.  She will have a little break and then she will start dance again in January.  I loved getting her ready in makeup and her costume.  It was my first time to do something like that with a daughter.  I was all giddy.  It made me think of getting her ready for prom and her wedding and how beautiful she will be.

Tons of family were there to support her and love her.  We are so lucky and blessed to have so much family and so close.  Her aunt gave her a rose afterwards and it turned out to be a really fun night.

Birthday and Halloween

Yesterday was Syd's birthday. She turned 4. I can't believe how old she is getting! We had pizza and cake and icecream and then went to the fun park afterwards.  Her party was a princess theme. She loved it.  I won't name everything she got, because she is really spoiled. Rory and I got her a Moxie girl and a Moxie girl remote control car, that you can put the Moxie girl in and drive around. I won't lie, I like to play with it. lol. She had fun at the fun park bowling and playing arcade games. After all of that she was still more excited for Halloween.

Today we went trick or treating around the neighborhood. Syd was a cowgirl and Ashlyn was supposed to be a pumpkin, but being herself she threw a fit everytime we put it on her and she wouldn't wear it. So she was nothing. But still they had fun and got too much candy. I guess me and Rory will have to help them eat it.

The Terror

Ashlyn has really been a challenge lately. She couldn't be any more opposite of Sydnee. Well she is 19 months old and she is definetley well into her terrible 2's.  She can be such a brat! We battled her all day yesterday. Everything makes her mad! She wants her clothes on and then she wants them off, throwing a fit each and every time. I mean screaming, flail herself to the floor, hitting her head types of fits. And so the day goes on like this every day.  She is also miss independent. She has to do EVERYTHING herself. And of course being her age she is not able to, which leads to more fits.  She likes to get into everything and climb everything.  We had to take the gate off that blocks the stairs because we caught her climbing half way up it. Another favorite thing of hers is to flush the toilet over and over again. Not to mention the endless fighting between her and Sydnee. She is definelty a successful form of birth control.  But we love her and don't know what we would do without her and seeing her cute little face and kissing those cheeks!

In 4 days it is Sydnee's birthday. I cannot believe she will be 4! It makes me sad to see her grow up so fast.  She cannot wait. She's got the whole thing planned out. She wants to wake up and have her cake on the table and balloons tied to her chair. She's so funny.  But I think she is more excited for halloween. Two fun days in a row.

Dinosaurs and Concerts

Syd's favorite picture. It makes her laugh.

Cute pic of them swinging.

Yee Haw!

Freaky/disgusting Halloween decoration.

Girls posing. lol.

Forgot the name of this one, but wouldn't want to run into one.

A fossil that was found in the sea. Looks like an alien. It's tiny.

Pteranodon. The picture doesn't do it justice on the size. Wing span of 23 feet.

Brontosaurus? Those ones with long necks. HUGE! They are 52 feet tall!

On Friday night we went down to West Valley so I could go and see the Creed/Staind concert at the E Center. It was awesome!!!! I had so much fun!!!! I will not post pics because the ones I took were on my phone and they are really blurry. I went with my bro in law and sis in law and my bro in laws date.  Rory and the girls stayed at the hotel. (For the most part, Rory is not interested in my choice of music. lol.) We stayed the night and on Saturday on our way home we went to the Dinosaur park in Odgen.  It was amazing to see how big those dinousaurs were! Scary! It was fun though. We got the girls some souveniers while there, and made the mistake of not getting them the same things. So they fought on the way home over them. They had the park decorated with halloween stuff. I thought it was way too scary for kids to see. I think the girls were more scared of the halloween decor then they were the dinos. We had a blast and it was fun to get out of the house for a weekend.

DANCE

Today was the first day of dance for Sydnee. She did really good and loved it! She cannot wait to go again. It was so cute and all the girls are adorable in their little outfits. It was cute, but I have to mention how hilarious it was too. Their first performance will be around Christmas time. I can't wait to see it!

Here she is doing "across the floor" excercises
Standing in line, waiting their turn.

Stretching and warming up.

Stretching and warming up.

I am excited to help her practice throughout the week. I can't wait to go again!

Weight and Colds

Today Ashlyn is supposed to have another weight check. I decided to call and cancel it. She has her 18 month checkup next month so I will wait until then to see how she is doing.
My girls have started getting colds already. Every winter they get a cold about every week. No lie. It looks like they have started early this year. Ugh. Nothing too exciting has been going on. Just enjoying eating food from the garden and making and eating zuchinni bread. We'll eat a loaf in one sitting. Today I am going to enroll Sydnee in a dance class. She is super excited and everyday she asks me if today is her ballet class. She will be so cute and I think it will be something that she really loves. I can't wait to see her dance at her recitals. She is getting so big. In a couple of months I will have a 4 year old. Crazy how time flies.

Pics of the new ride

64 miles on the car. Crazy!!!

I love the way the front looks.

I like the layout of this. The mph and the gas meter and temperature are all digital and located up by the bottom of the windshield. It doesn't show it real good here, but it's different from other cars.

I like the steering wheel. It's kind of funky and it seems smaller than the average. I think the blue lighting is cool.

If you haven't read about the new car, read my previous post. :)

New Car!!

So call us crazy, but we bought a new car today. And by new, I mean new. It's a 2009 Honda Civic. It has like 50 miles on it. Crazy! It's charcoal gray and pretty nice. We're crazy because we just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee back in March. (not a new one, a used). So why a new vehicle already? Well the Bronco has been having some major problems lately. It was a guessing game every day to see if it would start. Some days it would, some days not. Rory knows the problem, but it being so old he cannot find the part. Well it being a 1993 and no major problems we assumed the time was nearing when the transmission or something like that would go out and that would cost more to fix than it was worth. So we were contemplating what to do. Do we buy an older used truck so we can have a truck, or do we buy a used car, or have one vehicle? So we went looking a couple different days, seeing our options. Nothing really was really standing out to us. One dealer said he would give us 1500 for our trade in. We went home undecided. Well that day in the mail we got something advertising "cash for clunkers" from the government. You can go to a dealer and they will take your "clunker" and give you either 3500 or 4500 dollars to trade it in on a new vehicle. New meaning a 2009 or 2010 car. To qualify it had to get less than 18 mpg and so old. Of course the Bronco qualified. So we freaked. 4500 dollars for the Bronco is just crazy good and unbelievable. So that is how we ended up with the new car. The timing was perfect. But today is bittersweet. The Bronco believe it or not has a lot of sentimental value to Rory. I was even a little sad to see it go. It's the only thing that has been with us throughout our 5 years together. Unfortunately the fate of the "clunkers" is the junkyard. I feel like it was the family dog or something that we had to put to sleep. So we're sad. But how could we pass up such a good deal? I will post some pictures of the new car soon. Now we debate who gets to drive what. :) But I'm still in love with my Jeep.

Weight Check

Same old story. Come back in one month to weigh again. Is this getting tiring to anyone else? Well she has gained 9 ounces since a month ago. Good enough you think? No. I go back in one month to keep tracking her progress. Still no need to go to the specialist. Well, let's see what next month brings.

Girls

A couple of days ago my mom was nice enough to let all the girl cousins (minus Ashlyn. Dang) come over and have a sleepover. Sydnee was in heaven. She loves being with her cousins. There aren't very many girls so it was just Sydnee and 2 others. The next day we went miniature golfing which was fun even though I took 2nd. Haha. I always like when I am there because it brings back a lot of good memories from when me and Rory were dating. Afterwards we went to Firehouse to eat. When it was time to go home Sydnee got really sad and started to cry. She didn't want the sleepover to end. Thanks grandma for the fun time.
(I have pictures to post, but I just went to get my camera and I can't find it. So I will post them when I find my camera.)

Weight Check

I took Ashlyn to the doctor again today for another weight check. According to them she has gained 2 ounces. According to me she has gained 4 ounces. So the nurse went and asked the Dr. if I still need to take her to the specialist. She came back and said yes. Well I don't want to go so I told the nurse I wanted to talk to the doctor. So here is our conversation (as close as I can remember):

Dr: So you don't want to take her down the to dr?

Me: No, I honestly don't feel like it is necessary.

Dr: Well she has gained a little, I mean really slowly.

Me: What are they going to do if I take her?

Dr: (laughs) Well that's a fair question to ask. Um they will probably just tell you to keep doing the same thing we are already doing. Feed her high calorie foods and do weight checks. But they will look at her history and maybe see something there that I might not be seeing.

Me: I think my kids are just small. My other girl is the same way.

Dr: Well that could probably have a lot to do with it and that might
just be it. I'm okay if you cancel her appointment and just come back here in another month to check her weight. If she still hasn't gained much then you need to go.

So yeah. As of right now I'm not going to the specialist. I was a little bothered that he just said they would probably just say to do what we are already doing. At least he gave me an honest answer. I don't want to travel to Murray when I can do the same thing in Logan. So I will post what happens next weight check. Hopefully she will gain some weight.

5 Year Anniversary

Yesterday was our 5 year anniversary. How time flies! Last night we stayed at the Anniversary Inn in Logan. We stayed in the African Safari room and the girls stayed at grandma and grandpa's house. I loved this room! I have a lot pictures, but will only post a few.
We dropped the girls off and went and checked in and then ate at The Bluebird. Then we went to our room and we got to choose from this list of snacks what we wanted to eat. It came with the room. We decided to get rootbeer floats. Also the room came with a bottle of sparkling cider and 2 pieces of cheesecake. Then I discovered that I absolutely loved the room and started taking a lot of pictures of everything and kept saying how much I loved it. I think Rory thought I was a little nuts, but I was having fun. The bed was so comfortable. It was a king size intelligel bed and now I need to buy me one. There were a ton of pillows and it was so comfy. Around it were these big wood pillars and a big fur blanket on the bed and I thought it was awesome. The wall was also textured with like leapord print or something. It was cool. There were pictures of lions and elephants etc. all hung around the room and the carpet was animal print and then there was a rug that was also animal print. There were a couple statues of giraffes and an elephant. The jetted tub was amazing and on the ceiling above it was a big showerhead that came down like a waterfall or something. The walls were painted to look like we were inside a tent and there were little lanterns all around. I love it! We watched TV on the 52" flat screen which was fun because that is a lot different from what we have at home.
This morning they brought us breakfast that consisted of apple and orange juice, this pastry thing that had cream cheese in it that had a raspberry sauce drizzled over it and yogurt that had granola and fruit in it. After breakfast we got massages. There were 2 ladies that came into our room and give us each a half hour massage at the same time. That was nice. I had a great time and it was so nice to get away with Rory for a night. I am so thankful for him and all that he does and for the amazing dad he is to our girls. I look forward to many more years with him as we've hit our first major milestone. I love you Rory!

Grandpa Hollingshead's 60th Bday

Sorry I have no pics to post. I took my camera, but ended up being super busy and always on the go so I didn't take any pics. Anyways, yesterday we went to Downey for my father-in-laws 60th birthday party. We had a ton of fun! Ashlyn was a little angel and let just about anybody and everybody hold her and watch her. Weird, I know. So me and Rory took advantage of it and went and took a 4-wheeler ride together. We had a lot of fun and some much needed time together. Sydnee was the entertainment by singing a primary Happy Birthday song in front of a bunch of strangers! I couldn't believe it. It was cute. My sis-in-law also sang and did a good job. There were a couple of water balloon launchers there and we had a lot of fun doing that and water fights. Sydnee never sat down and she had sooo much fun. The only thing that wasn't fun were the mosquitos. They were in swarms and really thick. Somehow me and the girls didn't get bit, but everyone else was covered with bites. We hope Grandpa had a good birthday party and we love and appreciate him.

Weight Check

Took Ashlyn to the dr. today for her weight check. She now weighs 16 pounds 12 ounces. She has gained 11 ounces since her last check. Yay! He wants to do one more check before we see the other dr. and if she has gained again we can cancel the appt. I still don't think it is necessary, but better safe than sorry I guess.

Well last night at about 1 in the morning she started coughing really bad and it was so hoarse and horrible sounding. It was scary. We didn't know what to do. She can't breathe because her nose is so stuffy so she breathes through her mouth and every breath she took you could just hear the hoarseness. I've never heard such a bad cough before. She coughed all night, but she has a good daddy who stayed up all night on the couch with her. She is still coughing today, but the hoarseness seems to be gone, so far. I feel so bad for her. Hopefully she gets better soon. I take her to see the Dr. tomorrow for another weight check. Let's pray that she has gained, otherwise we are headed down to the specialist on June 22.

Catch #1

Last night we caught a cat. Syd was pretty excited. She asked it she could go and hold it. I don't know if she thinks we're trying to catch a pet or what. I walked over to the trap to let it out and it was clawing the trap and it wdas super scared. I worried when I released it, it would attack me. I opened the trap and it ran out of there so fast. I didn't know cats could run so fast.

Rockchuck, Skunk, or Cat?

I just had animal control come over and set up a live trap to catch the rockchuck that is eating my garden. I live by an old potato cellar and that is where it lives. I saw it quite a bit when we first moved in, but I have only seen it once this year. Everyday when I am checking out the garden more tops of my radishes have been eaten. It has eaten all but about 3. I won't lie, I'm a little scared of catching something. He said it won't hurt me and if I catch it, just pick up the trap and move him into the shade. What?! I'm not going near it. He also said there's a chance that it might trap a cat or a skunk. If a cat gets in there he showed me how to release it, but a skunk? The last thing I want is a skunk, in a trap, in my garden. He said obviously not to go near it. It's a possibility that I will trap a skunk because last year we had a lot of skunks in the field behind us and a baby one got stuck in the neighbors window well and died. Sometimes I feel like I live in some wilderness area and not in the city! I'll let you know what I catch.

Random Events and Shopping

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I did write something on Saturday and tried to post 4 pictures with it and it wasn't working out how I wanted it too and I got frustrated so it didn't happen. Not a whole lot has been going on. I had a good Mother's Day and the day before, Smithfield had a parade for Health Days. The girls had a blast (other than Syd being terrified and crying from the sirens). Ashlyn was on cloud nine sitting on grandpa Denton's lap and having a piece of candy in each hand which she held the entire time. Afterwards we headed up to Downey for a friend of the families 80th birthday party. Aside from it being really windy and cold we had a good time. Sydnee went on a hike with grandpa Hollingshead and I think she wore him out. Ash was spoiled and had someone holding her the entire time. When not being held she was busy helping herself to whoever's plate of food was within reach. We had some good laughs such as when Rory got yelled at by like a 9 year old boy for hitting the volleyball too high and when I randomly hit my brother-in-law in the shoulder to kill a mosquito when everybody thought I did it because of something he had said. My mother-in-law really enjoyed that. I think she laughed the hardest out of all of us. I think one of my favorite things to do is make my in-laws laugh. Get me with the right people and this really humorous side of me comes out.

Today I went on a huge grocery shopping trip. Picture me with the 2 girls alone. The shopping cart is overflowing (I'm at Sam's Club) so I am holding onto the cart and had Ashlyn in her car seat hanging on my forearm. Ouch. Sydnee is somewhere by me following me around. We get to the Jeep and all the stuff from Sam's Club feels up the entire back. I was wondering how I was going to fit everything in because I still had to stop at Lee's. Same story at Lee's. I can't fit any more groceries into the shopping cart so things are spilling all over. I have stuff crammed underneath and flowing out the top. While checking out I had to set Ash (in her car seat) on the floor. Well I look down and she has got some nasty paper she must have picked up off the floor and she was putting in her mouth. I'm a germaphobe so I flipped out. I got everything jammed into the Jeep and I am not kidding I had groceries filling the entire thing from floor to the top of the seats. Me and the girls are all jammed inside between bags of groceries. How in the world am I going to get all of this inside by myself? By then I had had enough so I took the girls over to my parents and had my dad watch them so I could get my stuff inside the house. I think it took me an hour or longer to do. Remind me not to go on a huge shopping trip like that without Rory again. It was madness.

Barney

Every morning Sydnee wakes up and has her breakfast and watches a couple of shows. It's probably a bad thing but they are educational and not just nonsense. She watches Super Why and Word World. Well afterwards Barney comes on. She'll sometimes watch it. At the end, as we all know, Barney sings "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family. With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too." Well when they get to the hug part she will hug ashlyn and then come and hug me and then at the kiss part she will kiss us both and then say I love you. It's the funniest thing ever.

No more traveling

Today is Rory's cousins wedding in Bountiful. We woke up to head down there this morning. Well while we were in the canyon Ashlyn pukes. We make it to Ogden she pukes again. I pull over at a gas station and puke is everywhere! Her and her carseat are drenched, not to mention the smell that is filling the whole Jeep. So we turned around and went home. Just about every single time we travel something like this happens! If a kid is not puking or something of that nature, then we are wrecking our car. If those things aren't happening then the kids are screaming the entire time. Somehow it's still a mystery to people why I don't travel. I get so upset everytime and then the whole trip is ruined anyways. I thought a trip to Bountiful would be harmless. I guess not. I feel bad that Rory didn't get to see his family that he hasn't seen for a while. I was also looking forward to getting some pretty pictures taken of us around the temple and getting the chance to go in a temple I have never been in.

Ashlyn

Today I took Ashlyn to the dr. for her weight checkup. At her one year appt. a month ago she was only 16 pounds so the doctor wanted her to come back monthly for a weight check to make sure she is gaining weight. So today was her first weight check since then. Well she has only gained 2 ounces. So the doctor said to go ahead and call this G.I. specialist that's somewhere in the Murray area that he says is really good and to make an appt. to see him in about 4-6 weeks. In the meantime I will take her in a month for another weight checkup. If she hasn't gained weight I will have to take her to the specialist. If she has gained enough weight then I can just cancel the appt. I'm not worried though. I don't feel anything is wrong with her. I honestly think that she was not getting enough from nursing (she would only nurse for about 5 mintues each feeding, but often) and she is just way behind. So I think it will take her a couple of months to gain. I hope that is the case, but I'm glad the dr. is telling me to make the appt. just as a precaution because you never know.
On the drive home a car pulled out in front of me or something so I called them an idiot. Afterwards I hear from the backseat, "Mom, you're not supposed to tell that to people." Sydnee had heard what I said. It was so funny. I guess I better watch what I say.

Landscaping

Over the last couple of days we have been trying to get some landscaping done. What a pain. It's hard when you have no idea about anything such as what kind of tree to get and where to put them. Our backyard is really starting to come together though. We have our garden and laid our sod last fall and now we have 2 apple trees. It's starting to look nice. It makes me antsy to get the rest of the yard done. Why do things have to cost so much? I bought a bush to put in my flower bed today and a shade tree that is likely too big for the area we want to put it in so now I don't know what we are going to do. We are planning on finishing the sides of our house with more topsoil and sod and then we will have only the front yard left for next year. Hopefully only one more year of Sydnee making a mess with our dirt in the front yard. Which today she fell into a puddle that was in the dirt. Yuck. I am so glad we were able to build a house, but the work that goes into a new home, not so fun. Our neighbors next to us are working on their sprinkler system and will finish their whole yard in sod this spring. Jealous. Today Syd had fun playing with the neighbors. Funny story. The neighbor boy had to go into the house because he pooped his pants and then a little later Syd was in the puddle, which a little while after that she peed her pants. Rough day in the yard for the kids. :)

Here we go again

Well poor Sydnee is sick again. No lie, almost every Tuesday she gets sick. Usually with a cold. Where does she get this sickness from? Church. This time she is throwing up. I hope the rest of us don't get it. If it's contagious Rory will probably get it because he gets everything. I get so stressed when people I live with are throwing up. I have a hard time dealing with it. As you recall when Sydnee was 1 she and Rory got really, really sick and what a scary, traumatizing nightmare that was for me. I am so scared of reliving that. I have become a germaphobe from it and am terrified of me or Rory or the girls getting sick. I only slept around 2 hours last night. It's going to be a long day. It is a lot of stress being a mom and I don't think I was cut out for it. Summer and no sickness where are you?

Easter

On Saturday morning we went to Mack park for and easter egg hunt. It was a madhouse. They had them sorted into ages and the 3 and under group had their own little area so it wasn't too bad and Syd got some candy. However, next year I'm scared. The rest of the ages are kind of joined together and it is a mad dash when they cut the rope. I think poor Syd will get trampled. Afterwards we headed to Lee's to meet "the cousins" there and walked around the little trail and got candy. The easter bunny was there and later I asked Syd if she liked the easter bunny and she said "yeah, it was that guy dressed up." No fooling her. After Lee's we went to Mcdonald's and ate with the cousins and she had a blast. She actually got brave enough to climb almost half way up the plaything. I had a good time being with my niece and nephews and sister-in-laws. I don't think we get together enough. Sydnee loves her cousins.

Easter morning we woke up and Sydnee turns to me and says, "Mom, what did you say last night?" I said, "What?" She says, "What did you say last night?" I said, "I don't know." She says, "You said the easter bunny was coming." Then she got up and was really antsy to go and see what she got. I told her she had to wait for Ashlyn and daddy to wake up, but that wasn't going to happen. She started to walk towards the living room. She got some sidewalk chalk and she calls it "Scotch." So cute. We had a fun weekend.

Baby Animal Days

We went to baby animal days and it was very disappointing. It was rainy, cold, windy and muddy. We took Sydnee when she was one and a half and we had lots of fun. They had lots of animals and they let you walk in their pens and pet them. Well this year they had like bigger baby animals and they had them all in enclosed pens. So she got to hold a baby chick and we just looked at the rest. It wasn't very fun. We were only there for maybe 20 minutes. It was a waste of our time and money. We will know not to go in the years to come.

Toilet Paper Trouble

I was in my room messing around on the computer and go to check on Ashlyn and she is in the bathroom with toilet paper scattered all over. That's not the first time that this has happened. I'm going to have to move my toilet paper elsewhere I guess. She gets into so much more stuff than Sydnee ever did. They are definitely opposites.
Yesterday I met Rory's grandma for the first time. As soon as she came in the door Sydnee ran and gave her a hug like she's known her for years. It was funny. Of course Ashlyn was a little more hesitant but when she was getting ready to leave she let her hold her for a couple of seconds. I always have fun getting together with my "brothers and sisters" because we always laugh (mostly from making fun of each other) and have a good time. And may I add that I have never eaten such good BBQ'd meat before. JK. :)

Happy Birthday Ashlyn!

So I know this is a week late, but I started my blog after her birthday. Plus everyone keeps telling me to add some pics.
Ashlyn has changed so much in the last 2 or 3 weeks. She is definitely growing up fast. She loves playing with her sister and her daddy. She loves eating and will beg for food anytime someone eats or drinks anything. She has started to say some words such as wow, ow, oh oh, what's that, mama, (sadly, I don't think it's intentional most of the time) and other things that sound like words but I am not sure if she means it. Sydnee has given her the nickname "Ashy" all on her own which I think is cute. She is really fun and knows how to make me smile and laugh. I love you "Ashy".
